Peter Chapman, President & CEO

Peter Chapman is President and CEO of IonQ and a Member of the Board. Prior to joining IonQ, Mr. Chapman was Director of Engineering for Amazon Prime, where he led the team responsible for Prime’s 2-Day delivery. He has over 40 years of leadership in software engineering, including alongside luminaries like Marvin Minsky and Ray Kurzweil. Mr. Chapman is credited with inventing the original sound card for computers, writing the software the Federal Aviation Administration uses to prevent mid-air collisions, and developing systems that protect the integrity of financial markets. Mr. Chapman has founded and led several companies to successful exits. He has served as IonQ’s president and chief executive officer and a member of its board of directors since May 2019.

Jungsang Kim, Co-Founder & CTO

Jungsang Kim is Chief Technology Officer of IonQ and a Member of the Board. Dr. Kim is regarded as one of the leading quantum computer engineers of our time. Prior to co-founding IonQ, Dr. Kim developed the first semiconductor based on a single photon source. During his five-year tenure at Bell Labs, Dr. Kim led the team that built the world’s largest optical switch, a record that still stands 20 years later. In 2004 he joined the faculty at Duke University, where he has relentlessly pursued technical innovations that pave the path towards practical quantum computers using trapped ion technology. Together, Dr. Kim and IonQ Co-Founder, Dr. Chris Monroe, invented the scalable quantum computer architecture using trapped ions that powers IonQ. Dr. Kim is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, and Computer Science at Duke University and a member of the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee. Dr. Kim is IonQ’s co-founder and has served as its Chief Strategy Officer and a member of its board of directors since September 2015. He assumed the role of Chief Technology Officer in 2020.

Thomas Kramer, Chief Financial Officer

Thomas Kramer is the Chief Financial Officer at IonQ. Mr. Kramer is an experienced Chief Financial Officer with an extensive background leading companies through rapid growth. At IonQ, Mr. Kramer focuses on commercializing our infrastructure and managing the company's relationships with investors and the public markets. He sits on the boards of PerfectServe, Peak Dental Systems, and MindsMatter DC. Previously, Mr. Kramer was the CFO of Opower, where he guided the company through its initial public offering and its sale later to Oracle; and co-founder and CFO of Cvent, where he took the company from zero revenue through the largest private software financing in the United States at that time. Mr. Kramer has served as IonQ’s Chief Financial Officer since February 2021.

Chris Monroe, Co-Founder & Chief Scientist

Chris Monroe is Chief Scientist at IonQ. Dr. Monroe is a world-renowned pioneer in quantum physics and the original inventor of the ion trap quantum computer. With David Wineland, he demonstrated the first quantum logic gate in 1995 at NIST, which contributed to Wineland’s Nobel Prize in 2012. Later, at the Universities of Michigan and Maryland, Dr. Monroe demonstrated the first ion trap on a semiconductor chip, pioneered qubit networking using photons, and developed ultrafast quantum gates for trapped ion qubits. He is a Professor of Physics and Electrical Computer Engineering at Duke University and a College Park Professor at the University of Maryland. Dr. Monroe is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee. Dr. Monroe is IonQ’s co-founder and has served as its chief scientist since September 2015.

Laurie Babinski, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

Laurie Babinski has served as our general counsel and secretary since March 2022. From December 2019 to March 2022, Ms. Babinski served as deputy general counsel at Credit Karma, LLC, a multinational personal finance company, where she also served in various roles from August 2015 to December 2019, including as the lead of numerous legal functions such as product, marketing, regulatory, privacy, litigation, employment and government relations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Prior to that, Ms. Babinski worked at the law firm Baker Hostetler LLP practicing in the Media, Technology and Intellectual Property group. Ms. Babinski received a J.D. from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and holds a B.A. in Journalism and Spanish from Pepperdine University.

Tom Jones, Chief People Officer

Tom Jones joined IonQ in July of 2021 as its first Chief People Officer. Mr. Jones began his career leading HR for startup tech and manufacturing companies before ultimately being acquired by Honeywell. He then joined Microsoft’s global M&A team where he led numerous acquisitions and integrations across all of Microsoft’s business divisions. Mr. Jones eventually left M&A moving in business HR management roles with a highlight being leading HR for Microsoft’s global datacenter infrastructure business during its transition to the cloud. More recently, Mr. Jones served as VP of Human Resources at Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company, Blue Origin, where he also held a US Top Secret/SCI security clearance. Mr. Jones received two undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Psychology and an MBA from the University of Washington.

Rima Alameddine, Chief Revenue Officer

Officer since December 2022. Before that, Ms. Alameddine was at Nvidia for almost 7 years. She built the sales business for the Eastern half of the United States from scratch and then became the Vice President of Enterprise Sales for the Americas across multiple industries. Prior to that she was at Cisco for 18 years in a variety of engineering and sales leadership roles, including Director of Financial Services sales and Director of New York Enterprise sales. Ms. Alameddine holds an M.S. in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University and a B.S. in Computer and Communication Engineering from the American University of Beirut.
